ITALIA TRASPORTO AEREO SPA (hereinafter "ITA Airways" or "we") places the utmost importance on ensuring that its services are digitally accessible to people with disabilities. We consistently strive to offer an inclusive and accessible online experience for all our users. Our goal is to make our services easy for everyone to find, access, use, and understand.
Information Scope
This Accessibility Information applies to services under Directive (EU) 2019/882 and the laws implementing it in the Member States of the European Union, such as those offered or provided on the Website www.ita-airways.com by the Lufthansa Group company indicated by name and address in the legal notice.
They were prepared on June 27, 2025, and will be reviewed and updated as necessary in accordance with applicable legal regulations and technical standards.
Description of Applicable Requirements
The applicable accessibility requirements for services are defined in the laws of the European Union Member States pursuant to Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on accessibility requirements for products and services (the "European Accessibility Act" or "EAA"). The implementation of Annex V of Directive (EU) 2019/882 also entails the obligation to provide and publish information on the accessibility of services.
In Germany, the applicable accessibility requirements are defined in the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG). For services, accessibility requirements are described in Section 3, paragraph 1, in conjunction with Section 1, paragraph 3 of the BFSG and in the Ordinance on the Barrier-Free Accessibility Act (Verordnung zum Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, “BFSGV”), which was promulgated based on Section 3, paragraph 2 of the BFSG. The obligation to prepare and make accessibility information available for services arises from Section 14, paragraph 1, of the BFSG, in conjunction with Appendix 3 to Sections 14 and 28 of the BFSG and the BFSGV.
The applicable accessibility requirements also derive from the national, European, and international legal standards cited in these legislative acts. When meeting the requirements for services, the highest standard must be observed. The harmonized European standard EN 301 549 applies in this regard. Annex A thereof declares the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), currently at conformance levels 2.1 A and AA, to be binding.
Description of General Service
ITA Airways is a global airline. The services provided online include enabling customers to book flights and travel services, receive travel information, manage customer data, and utilize additional services, such as seat selection, baggage options, or check-in, via electronic communication channels.
The Lufthansa Group offers this service for several of its airlines, including ITA Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa, SWISS International Air Lines AG (“SWISS”), Austrian Airlines AG (“Austrian Airlines”), Brussels Airlines SA (“Brussels Airlines”), Eurowings GmbH (“Eurowings”), and EW Discover GmbH (“Eurowings Discover”). These airlines fly to numerous domestic and international destinations, both on scheduled and charter flights.
You can find detailed information about flight offers and services of each airline on the Lufthansa Group websites, for example, at www.ita-airways.com, where explanations of the services offered are also available.
Service Performance
First, before booking a flight through our website, customers can browse connecting flights, fare options, and additional services. After selecting the desired connecting flight and entering their travel dates, a personalized flight offer is displayed, including information on the total price, available baggage options, and additional services such as advance seat reservation or rebooking options.
The booking is completed and becomes binding by pressing the “Book now” button, after which customers receive a travel receipt by email as well as access to their travel data in their customer account or via the app.
Detailed information on travel itineraries, baggage rules, check-in procedures, and other services is available on our website at www.ita-airways.com. The site also offers initial content in plain language and describes other accessibility options, such as for people with reduced mobility or sensory disabilities.
Service Accessibility Requirements
To ensure ongoing compliance with accessibility requirements, we implement the harmonized European standard EN 301 549 and the WCAG reference standards at the highest level of compliance.
The services must therefore be:
- Perceivable (i.e., information and service elements must be presented to users in a way that they can perceive them)
- Usable (i.e., users must be able to use the service and navigation elements)
- Understandable (i.e., the information and use of the services must be understandable)
- Robust (i.e., the content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a variety of technical tools, including assistive technologies)
WCAG provides guidance on how to offer design services that are intuitive, perceivable, usable, understandable, and robust for people with disabilities. There are currently three conformance levels. In line with European standards, we implement conformance levels 2.1A and AA.
To this end, we regularly adopt, among others, the following measures:
- Audits: We conduct regular accessibility audits, both automated and manual, to systematically review our digital services for compliance with WCAG Levels 2.1A and AA and EN 301 549.
- Training: We provide ongoing and comprehensive training to our content managers, designers, and developers. This ensures they are familiar with accessibility best practices and can incorporate these principles into every stage of content creation and development.
- Integration into the development cycle: Accessibility is integrated into the entire development lifecycle of our software; from initial design and planning to testing and implementation, we adopt an “accessibility by design” approach wherever possible.
- Dedicated Accessibility Team: We have a dedicated team responsible for implementing and monitoring accessibility initiatives across our digital platforms.
Our website has been comprehensively reviewed by our in-house accessibility experts according to applicable accessibility standards.
In addition to internal procedures, our website has been reviewed by external accessibility experts. We also tested our website in collaboration with people with disabilities to identify potential barriers.
We are constantly working to improve the way we provide our services in compliance with all legal requirements. We offer contact options to report accessibility issues and suggestions for improvement.
